What is ADSL/BROADBAND?

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber line) is a system which uses high frequency signals on your phone line to carry data at the same time as normal telephone calls.

This allows you to be on the internet, whilst using the telephone at the same time.

Speed: There are several different speeds you can get from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). This often depends on which ISP you use.

E.g. 250Kb/s, 500Kb/s, 1Mb/s, 2Mb/s and 3Mb/s, 8Mbs, 16Mbs. This is always increasing depending on technology.

The speed can often vary due to the distance you are from the telephone exchange and the quality of the line.

Generally ADSL filters are used. The filter(s) allows you to be on the internet and the telephone at the same time. Generally an ADSL filter has to go in any telephone socket that has a phone (equipment) plugged in to it.

Without these ADSL filters you will generally have noise over your telephone line.

You can have more than one computer running off of one line, if you have an ADSL Router. (You may also need other equipment depending on your set up).
